How to crack an interview overseas?

Been thinking to write on this topic for quite some time. Got some time now.

Before we discuss in detail on the process, believe that you can and you will get an offer, no matter whatever happens. Start visualizing daily that you will be working in an organization having projects, meetings, phone calls, emails…oooooooo...What a busy day!

Culture of each country is different from the other. Be it in your actions, words or dressing. In short, let the employer know you are a part of them. Ready to be one among the team members of the employer.

Nobody wants a smart or intelligent consultant everybody is looking for a person who is having right attitude and fits well for their requirement. Your main goal in the interview would be to make the HR know ‘how well you fit well in that position’ than ‘how smart or intelligent you are’

Make sure what you really want, where you would like the project and your salary expectation. Prepare your resume (in US)/CV (in Middle East) as per those countries standards. Make sure you include the keywords like Java, struts...Etc with w.r.to the requirement. Your role and responsibilities are very much essential. Kindly include your project name, size and exact dates as well.

Post your resume into the portals with correct contact details especially the phone number. Dig yourself into the local portals of that country: dice, careerbuilder, monster, indeed, craigslist being the few in USA. Monstergulf, naukrigulf, recruitgulf being in Middle East. Careerone, Mycareer and seek in Australia. Search for different keywords and vendor companies in your location. Start applying to the requirements. Also, apply to only those whom you would join after the selection. Keep a note of your submissions w.r.to date, employer, contact number and exact position and job number. Keep following up on the submission. If you do not follow-up, there is no way you will get a call. It’s very important to follow-up stating you are very keen on joining them.

Contact the vendor companies/consultancies and let them know you are ready with the project in the specified skills. More the vendors you contact, more the chances of getting job, make sure your reach is high.

Some companies have an initial online technical test round before interview more related to your job. Look into technicalinterviews.com and fastrevise.com, it might help. After getting an interview, cracking the interview is not a hurdle at all. Start learning culture of that country. Start interacting with the locals and get CDs, DVDs from library on how to crack the interview to learn the culture in that location. Not to forget to watch the local programs to make to get accustomed with the accent. Success of the interviews depend on how confident you are! Everything is based on trust, you say you know the subject, they trust and believe you and you will be hired!

Finally, if you attend three interviews don’t you think you will get one offer letter?

I am sure you will! All the best!!!

Sourcing is not hard at all!!!!

Its easy to source active candidates , who apply in different jobsites..who will be happy to receive your call..will reply promptly to your emails..

What about the passive candidates? who are not looking for job, would have placed their resume in jobboards , may be long time back..would not have submitted resume to your competitors/clients.

job boards like monster,dice,careerbuilder,jobsahead,naukri,timesjobs..might not be of much help.

Open source search tool like Maltego will be of help.

http://maltego1.paterva.com/maltego-classic.html

This will be speciallyuseful when you need to find several contacts of same company.

Search engines like google, altavista, line search, yahoo search will provide a platform for the same.
Just see the magic using this in your search engines :

You will find resumes who work on SAP ABAP.

(resume | homepage | profile | bio)site:members.aol.com java
You will get candidates working in java in AOL. Sites can be any,friendster.com, profile.myspace.com,linkedin.

~resume C++ java 63000..63199 -job -apply -submit
To get C++ java candidates who are based in a region of pincode 63000 to 63199.

To find contacts of a particular company :
oracle corp(intitle:contact | inurl:contact)

just use : (intitle: "resume for" | intitle:"resume of") C++ Java to find canidates of C++,java background.

Alright..enough of it as of now, happy sourcing!

Having trouble finding a new job? Cheer up. When it comes to resumes, a new survey reveals just how clueless some of your competition is.

You've worked hard on your resume, trying to squeeze all your experience in and make yourself stand out from the crowd, and chances are you've done a pretty good job. But even if your resume isn't perfect, it's unlikely to include any real howlers.

Not everybody can say that. Job site CareerBuilders.com recently asked pollsters Harris Interactive to survey hiring managers and find out the wackiest resume items they've seen lately. Out of 2,627 responses, here are the top ten:

A job candidate...

1. ... attached a letter from her mother.

2. ... used pale blue paper with teddy bears printed around the border.

3. ... explained a three-month gap in employment by saying that he was getting over the death of his cat.

4. ... specified that his availability to work Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays is limited because the weekends are "drinking time."

5. ... included a picture of herself in a cheerleading uniform.

6. ... drew a picture of a car on the outside of the envelope and said the car would be a gift to the hiring manager.

7. ... listed hobbies that included sitting on a levee at night watching alligators.

8. ... mentioned the fact that her sister had once won a strawberry-eating contest.

9. ... stated that he works well in the nude.

10. ... explained an arrest record by stating, "We stole a pig, but it was a really small pig."

Feel better now?
